Walsall Health C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads humbled by Elf

Nomads 3rd match of the season saw them travelling to Rushall to play long-standing opponents Elf. Barely had the spectators settled into their seats before Gardner was out first ball with the umpire seeing no reason not to give Pete out lbw. Nomads struggled to keep the score moving against some decent bowling. Hutton was looking good but seemed to catch his bat with his pads whilst being bowled. Baker was determined to carry his bat but misjudged a ball leaving it to bowl him. As we know Elf have an excellent keeper and he took a quick stumping to dismiss Anick Mahmood and a catch standing up, to dismiss Turnbull who was looking good at this stage. Rolfe kept the innings going with some determined batting and Hughes batted well to add runs. Unfortunately Briars, out for his second duck, and Hoddy, out for 1 did not last long, although we did bat out the overs and get past the 100.

There have been some low-scoring games at Rushall and we hoped to get some quick wickets to put the pressure on. However Hutton’s 1st over saw him pull up with back problems and although Bryars did get the quick wicket, Nomads ,perhaps trying too hard to make things happen, bowled erratically and Elf had no problems knocking the runs off in a mere 13 overs.

Although we did not have much luck, we were well-defeated by Elf who are always a tough nut to crack.
