Peopleton C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Peopleton declare for 2nd year running

Looking forward to playing cricket again Nomads anticipated a tough game against opponents who declared against us last season. Hutton bowled a good spell as usual opening along with Hoddy who was a bit surprised to be opening the bowling after arriving only just in time after a long journey from the East Midlands. He did not bowl with quite his usual consistency as even the 'Clockwork Mouse' can get rusty after a lay-off. Cartwright came on and also bowled well for a couple of wickets. Harrison started his spell well but struggled to keep his form. Brannigan took a catch off him which both he and Cartwright were going for. Fortunately Cartwright pulled away at the last second saving him potential injury. Brannigan struggled for 3 overs. It would be great to see the Brannigan of old bowling again. Basi came on for 5 overs and claimed his 1st wicket for the Nomads. Peopleton declared after 35 overs after reaching what they believed to be a match winning total.

This proved to be the case as no-one could achieve a match-winning innings. Two self inflicted run-outs did not help with both Stanley and Cartwright misjudging the possibility of a run. Also 3 of our batsmen were caught on the boundary trying to push things along. Nomads struggled along to 145 before being dismissed in the 40th over.

The Peopleton side is certainly a different team the one we played on the first 2 occasions we played them. Again they declared which is slightly insulting but well justified and also gives an earlier finish. A lack of cricket for us could be an excuse for our heavy defeat but a full programme would have been unlikely to have made much difference. We really need our strongest team plus a bit of fortune to hope for victory.
